IUE’ experts took part in the work of UNECE’s seminar 'Sustainable urban planning and housing', the city of Grodno, the Republic of Belarus

Seminar ‘Sustainable urban planning and housing: national priorities of the Republic of Belarus and best international practices’ took place from 31 May to 1 June 2018 in the city of Grodno, the Republic of Belarus.

The objectives of the seminar: to promote building capacity of national and local authorities in Belarus on integrated urban planning and housing policies; to share and discuss good practices on green urban planning in Belarus and internationally.

Сo-organizers of the event were Ministry of Architecture and Construction of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Belarus State Enterprise ‘Institute of Housing - NIPTIS named after Ataev S.S.’, UNDP-GEF Project ‘Belarus: Supporting Green Urban Development in Small and Medium-Sized Cities in Belarus’.

The seminar was attendant by national and international participants including: national experts of CIS countries in housing sector and urban development, representatives of regional executive committees in Belarus (Brest, Minsk, Minsk region, Vicebsk, Mahiliou, Homel, Vicebsk, Hrodna), chief architects of cities from Belarus (Polotsk, Novopolotsk, Novogrudok, Brest, Hrodna, Vileika and others), experts of Gosstroyexpertiza, Gosstrojnadzor and housing and communal services of regional and regional cities of Belarus, Ministry Housing and Communal Services, Ministry of Architecture and Construction, Ministry of environment, UNDP, UNECE, UN-Habitat.

The first day was devoted to housing policy and energy efficiency. The experts of IUE’ Urban Economy department - Director of department Irina V. Gentsler and senior expert Evgeniya P. Zhelezova made reports at the ‘International best practices in housing and housing finance’ session.
