The 78th Session of the Committee on Housing and Land Management took place from 8 to 10 November 2017 in Geneva.
It included a Ministerial Segment on 9 November 2017, which was organised as a forum for a high-level exchange of experiences and views on progress and challenges related to the implementation of recent international agreements such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the New Urban Agenda and the Geneva UN Charter for Sustainable Housing. The Ministerial Meeting has adopted the Geneva Ministerial Declaration on Sustainable Housing and Urban Development. It was also an occasion to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Committee since its establishment.

Country profiles on housing and land management
Following an external evaluation of the Country Profiles on Housing and Land Management for the period from 1996 to 2015 conducted in 2016, the Guidelines for country profiles on housing and land management were revised in accordance with the recommendations of the evaluation report. The Committee invited to review the updated country profiles guidelines. The participants were informed also on the key outcomes and policy recommendations of the Country Profile on Housing and Land Management of Kazakhstan.

Regional workshop for ECE Region: Building capacity in countries in transition economy in housing and urban development
The workshop is organized by the UNECE and UN-Habitat as a final regional workshop of the UNDA 9th tranche project “Strengthening national capacities for sustainable housing and urban development in countries with economies in transition”.
The workshop discussed experiences, best practices of and lessons learned in the implementation of the project. The project was aimed to support building capacities of national governments for development and implementation policies on sustainable housing and urban development in countries with economies in transition (implemented in four countries – Armenia, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Tajikistan).
